Along with pet insurance, micro chipping has become increasingly popular among UK pet owners as a security method. Microchips for animals are tiny chips, usually similar in size to a grain of rice, and are planted underneath the skins surface, usually between the shoulder blades.
It is done with a needle and is virtually painless, much like receiving a vaccination jab. The implant is in within seconds, but then lies beneath the skin as a permanent method of identification.
Every year thousands of lost or stolen animals are found and taken into shelters and rescue centres in the UK. Because of a lack of formal identification, some of these animals never make it to their original owners. Microchipping is the only real way to ensure that any vet or rescue centre who finds your pet can trace it back to you and ensure your pet can be returned home.
